Jeepers Creepers (2001)

"WhAT's EATing you?"
Writer/director Victor Salva returns to his horror roots with this teen-slasher genre flick, one of several 2001 films produced by Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope studio. Gina Philips and Justin Long are siblings Trish and Darry, road tripping home from college across the U.S. and bickering all the way. Menaced by a truck on the highway, the travelers encounter the same vehicle later, and what they believe is a man dumping a human body into a drainage pipe. Investigating, Darry and Trish become the intended prey of an indestructible, supernatural creature hell-bent on eating them, a murderous local myth that is proving to be all too real. As they attempt to escape their bloodthirsty pursuer, the pair discovers that even the local police station is no refuge; they also receive some advice from a knowledgeable psychic (Patricia Belcher). Jeepers Creepers co-stars Eileen Brennan. ~All Movie Guide

CINEMORTE REVIEW:
by Ratso (5/5/2010)

For JEEPERS CREEPERS, I almost need to review first half & second half separately. First half was tight, suspenseful, and "scary" while the second half was predictable, cliched, and disappointing. The main characters see what they think are dead bodies being dumped so they investigate. Find out it's The Creeper who rises every 23rd summer for 23 days and if he smells fear, he steals body parts from his victims so he can take "human" form??? Shortly after the creature is shown, the movie ends up turning formulaic and like I said, about half way through, you realize it's taken a turn toward Lamesville. Some positive aspects are that the creature itself is pretty cool looking, main character's sister is pretty hot, and as mentioned, early part of movie is well done and builds. Sadly tho, it detours. Watch it and see what you think...maybe you'll disagree.
